A number of famous artists have come out of Ecuador, making a name for themselves around the world. Amongst these artistic legends is Félix Arauz, who is named among other famous artists such as Jose Carreño, Enrique Tábara Juan Villafuerte and Aníbal Villacís. Arauz uses vivid colors to create an almost dreamlike feel in his art work, producing beautiful pieces that are not easily forgotten. Amongst his chosen subjects are faces, children, flowers, trees of life, abstracts and landscapes.

Jorge Icaza's Expressions of Social Protest

Most likely best known for his starkly realistic novel Huasipungo, Ecuadorian writer Jorge Icaza Coronel (1906-1978) began his literary career as a playwright. Some of his first published works included El Intruso (1928), La Comedia sin Nombre (1929), Cuál es (1931), and Sin Sentido (1932). Some of these works were lighthearted in nature and popular productions, but after writing a dramatic play in 1933, El Dictador, reportedly based on a novel by Jules Remains, government authorities took exception to the theme of the play and prevented it from being staged. It was at this point the Jorge Icaza began to express his viewpoints on the social problems of the time through the writing of novels.

Pedro Vicente Maldonado was born in the city of Riobamba on 24 November 1704, and was the son of parents who were both in high social standing, as well as being quite affluent. Don Pedro Antonio Maldonado Sotomayor and Dona Maria Flores Palomino were able to give their son a very good education, which led to Maldonado becoming a respected and legendary mathematician, astronomer, topographer and physicist. In his life he contributed greatly to the world around him and is still remembered in Ecuador as one of the leading minds of his time.

Hugo Saninovich is a known commentator for WWE. But before teaming up with Marcelo Rodrigues and Carlos Cabrera to bring the wrestling action to the Spanish speaking audience, he was a professional wrestler himself. Saninovich is generally in a commentating team with Cabrera, but on occasion he and Rodriguez are play by play announcers, and he has become a successful Spanish announcer. The Ancient Valdivia Culture in Ecuador

An archaeologist, Emilio Estrada, discovered the Valdivia culture in the year 1956 and it has been determined that it is one of the oldest cultures that can be found across the Americas. It was derived from the Las Vegas Culture, and Estrada was able to establish that this culture was alive between the years 3500 and 1800 BC in Ecuador. Archaeological discoveries assisted Estrada in making his determinations through pottery and various other items discovered. When artefacts found on Kyushu Island in Japan were compared to those found in Ecuador, a theory emerged that there was trade between these two communities, however, this theory has not been proven beyond a doubt.
