The way that Multi-natioanl companies get away with it.
Well, in a very basic answer yes. Especially in Ecuador. I will bring up the example of restaurants and fast food joints. Also how American food is imported into the grocery stores . I see Kentucky Fried Chicken in Quito, Cuenca Machala and Guayaquil..they make loads of money. Burger King in Cuenca and Quito and Guayaquil. Also Ecuador has McDonalds. In Guayaquil (Malecon) there is one McDonalds I was recently at where the lines were so long and the restaurant was so packed that there was a girl that was taking orders on a clip-board and giving the people a ticket with their orders on it. Then they had to get to the front of the line and tell the cashier their order all over again- completely ridiculous. If Ecuador is considered a third world country based on the economy, then multi-national companies do have there foot in the door for developing this type of country. However as an American, and having the opportunity to have such businesses in my life since I was born, I notice that they have not quite mastered the concept of the fast food in many of those restaurants- ALTHOUGH THE RESTAURANTS ARE BASICALLY DEVELOPING A NEW TREND OF FOOD ON THE GO. This is not the Chuleta or Carne Asada or Pollo a la plancha, arrozes etc that are being served in the small restaurants or on the streets. By the way, when I was there I also saw Tony Roma's Ribs, TGI Fridays, Dominos Pizza, and Pizza Hut. I live in Washington state where my grocery stores here sell Tropicana orange Juice. While I shopped on a regular basis at a SuperMaxi chain of stores I noticed that the brand was finally introduced to the store. America has an area with several brands of juices all in one area. This grocery store had the Tropicana beside the yogurt and the milk. outrageously this product was priced at $6.00 American for a gallon. America differs in the way that fresh fruits are priced. I will pay as low as .75 for a pinneapple, where here in America there is $.75 to the pound for such a fruit. Well the list goes on and on. Ever since the dollar was introduced I say that the clothing, food, shampoos (American Brands especially), cosmetics- are all priced ridiculously...but still affordable to the average American.Hey I was just living there with my Ecuatorian fiance for about a year, so I have plenty to comment on. I also speak fluent Castillano.
