Is Ecuador Democratic?

I've been wondering if your government is Right or Left wing aswell

Bob:

YES!!, Ecuador lives and it is governed under a Democratic regime.

We went back to democracy in 1979, after several years of military dictatorship.

Nowadays, our President, Jamil Mahuad is said to be a center-left president with a social conscience but.... he's way of handeling social and economical events and matters is far from anybody with a sane or a "social justice" oriented mind.

It is true that Ecuador needs radical and inmediate changes, but it seems to me that the social cost is just too high and it is also increasing more and more everyday.
The ones who are being affected by this unnecessary measures are the unprotected(poor)social classes.

Believe it or not, the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer.
The middle class has been erradicated from the face of our country; those who were considered "economically stable" are now struggling to survive.

Is the government acting properly?
That is something only History will answer.
