Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa said May 30 that bilateral relations with Peru will strengthen as a result of the June 1 bi-national Cabinet meetings, dispelling rumors of a rift caused by reported border issues. Espinosa said Ecuador has not had any issues with Peru since the two countries signed a peace treaty ending the border conflict in 1998. Peruvian President Alan Garcia and Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa are expected to oversee the bilateral meetings aimed to develop the border region.
