"Ecuadorian Spanish vs. Spanish
I lived in Ecuador for 5 years. When I got there all I could speak was (bad) Puerto Rican Spanish. As Vinnie says Ecuadorian Spanish (Castellano) is a very proper and polite way of speaking. Ecuadorians speak fairly slowly (so they are easier to understand) and they pronounce very well especially in the south. Every country in Central & South American as well as Spain, Mexico etc. each have their own little frases. GENERALLY their Spanish is the proper, correct Spanish called Castellano but like any place they DO have some expressions which are just their own. If you know some Spanish you shouldn't have any problem understanding Ecuadors. Plus they are kind, wonderful, patient people and will take the time and trouble to understand and help you and make sure that YOU understand them! Have a great trip.
