us Ecuadorians are so ethnocentric that we live and die for la patria. We are the ultimate race (damn I feel like the ecuadorian hitler). All the old genteration (like my parents and bailamos's parents) are so ethnocentric that even thou we are their childern; born of full blood, they still don't even consider us ther childern ecuadorian because we didn't grow up over there!
so we are the die-hard race!

Hi Sarah,
I will be going to ecuador sometime this summer too...probably late July so I've been asking my relatives what I should expect. I'm from Manabi and according to one family member bachata is starting to get big there...I can't wait to go and show off my moves. I would think that salsa, cumbia, vallenato, spanish rock and pop are also very popular there as well. If they're not, then they will be once I get there! Well, hope you have lots of fun and welcome to the forum. ![]() |

Hola!
Yo voy en Ecuador tambien! But my spanish is NOT good:-) I'm a belgian girl and I'm going on an exchange from september 2003 till July 2004. I'm soooo looking forward to get there, I've already read a lot about it and it seems really beautiful there. So if anyone (ecuadorian, or non-ecuadorian) wants to tell me about the country! please! I would like to know a lot about the 'every-day-habits', things youngsters do, the music, the mentallity,... I don't know yet where I shall stay but it's probably somewhere in the Sierra (because the schoolyear is similar to the belgian one there) I'm staying with a host family, I also don't want to be a 'tourist' there. Of course I want to see the country but I really want to live one year as an ecuadorian:-) I'm going to school there too (last year of secundairy school) so if anyone can tell me something about the school system.. always handy! well thanx, and everyone who is going to Ecuador.. or who IS in ecuador.. or will never reach ecuador:-s... have a great time!!!
