I've read mostly good about Quito and Ecuador in general, but not all good. It seems Ecuadorians are an open friendly people, but also that I need be careful, especially at night... and especially in Old Town. Anyone can have a bad experience in any country and it's from those people that most of the bad comments come from, so I'd like to hear more from someone with some real experience there.
I want to live and teach in Quito, so I'd love to hear any feedback on what I should expect from both the people and the dark alleys.
Thanx

Thumbs up Quito is safe, if you don't invite danger

What I mean by that is that if you intentionally go to places at night where it's known as a "red zone" area than you're asking for trouble.

I've been visiting Ecuador, Quito for over 30 years (I use to go every year for at least 20 years and now it's more like every two years because of kids) but it's always been safe.

I try not to go out alone at night because you look like a tourist and Ecuador is a third world country so therefore it's poor and will be hungry for money.

Just be careful if you decide to go out at night. I repeat night again and again because that's the only time of day that I'm careful.

Have fun!

ps there are no duendes!!!
