Hi, I am studying in Ecuador next year, and it is customary to take gifts to the family you will live with while in the country. What are some things from America that can't be found in Ecuador? I am going to Guayaquil so it's city life and I can't think of anything "American" to bring my hosts.

wel, u see, gifts...well. ok here it goes. i liverd there for 2 years, and you cant get alot of things such as chocolate, cloths(hip stylin), and some other modern "conviniences" so if u bring em some cadbury and a few tee shirts that say i love NY then they will love it. haha they really treasure things, no matter what they are. U will realize that material things arent as important there, and that love is the best gift you can give. enjoy the experiences with them, and get them to take u to a place that THEY like. they will love you for ever. trust me, i went into the jungle with all of my neighbours, and went out to their farms to pick fruits, and do some work, and they loved the fact that i would do that, and i loved it. such simple things that can bring such cool experiences. Resist the temtation to stay in the "confort zone" and get out and do things with poor peple, it shows that we as canadians or americans are good people, and that we arent there to use, but to share and live life like them. there it is. that will bring you joy and them also. but dont forget chocolate! haha i realllly missed it when i was there!!!!!!!! haha well have a good trip

Guayaquileños are very friendly and warm people, and we will receive you openhearted. Be prepared to learn salsa and merengue!
