Family traveling to Quito

Hi we are thinking of traveling to Quito on a last minute vacation/visa run from Panama on Dec. 27. for 5-7 days. First, does anyone know of a hotel with a suite (does not have to me fancy) for our family of 4? Are there activities for families there? Would you recommend renting a vehicle or hiring taxis? We don't need to go to the ocean as we live on the ocean here in Panama. We are looking for non-ocean activities and a cultural experience! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
