Television in Ecuador
The television industry in Ecuador is quite well established and many of the programs they air are produced locally. There are at least four national television networks and all offer quality programs on a daily basis. Of course, the national language is Spanish so don’t expect too understand too much of it if you do not speak the language. There are also, however a few programs run in English and other languages. Watching local television programs can be a great way to learn more about a country's culture or people. So make sure that you take the time to watch at least a little television in Ecuador.
National TV Networks:
Besides these national networks, there are also quite a few local TV stations. The broadcast range of these smaller TV stations is not as large as those of the national networks, but they still provide great TV viewing. They also tend to show adverts and news relating to the area, which can be helpful to a visitor. Most local stations are broadcast from the bigger cities but there are some that are based in smaller cities.
Local TV Stations:
- Telecuenca (Cuenca)
- Ecuatoriana de TV (Guayaquil)
- Canal 4 (Guayaquil)
- && (Quito)
- TV Cubana (Canal 6) (Esmeraldes)
- Televisora Nacional (Quito)
- Manavision (Portoviejo)
- Canal 13 Quito (Quito)
- TBN Ecuador (Guayaquil/Quito)
In general, residents of Ecuador access television networks through either a television cable or an aero cable. Some also watch it on their computers at home from all over the world or via satellite.
