Iliniiza Norte Summit (16818 ft)
September 7, 2010. Emma Kirwan and Matt O'Connell reach the summit of Illiniza Norte, after a tricky climb through driving snow. In this video, you can hear a zinging sound - static electricity drawn to the metal cross planted on the peak. Our guide Chapico felt a slight zap and immediately ordered our descent. We managed to snap one shot but didn't get our Peaks Over Poverty flags out in time! The downhill trek was a gigantic slip and slide through 5 fresh inches of powder on a vertical snow bowl.
