Peace Corps 30-Second Summary [00:37]
As I return from the Peace Corps, I am being asked the obvious but difficult question, "So, how was it?" After observing a few eyes-glazed-over expressions and a couple conspicuous glances down at a smartphone when I detail the improvements my community made to their queso fresco cheese, I decided to prepare this 30-second summary instead. Thanks to the US Peace Corps and to my friends in Ecuador for a very rewarding two years. Gracias a Cuerpo de Paz y mis amigos ecuatorianos por unos dos años muy gratificantes.

Mainao Hotel, Santa Cruz Island, Ecuador (EC) [00:45]
goo.gl for reviews, prices and info. Mainao Hotel, Santa Cruz Island, Ecuador (EC) Mainao Hotel is a pleasant and clean hotel with a friendly, experienced staff. Located near the main street of Puerto Ayora, it is conveniently accessible while being set apart from the busy activity of the town. Mainao has lovely outdoor open areas within the hotel to wander in and relax. A former tour guide, the owner has utilized his knowledge of tourists needs to thoroughly equip his hotel. From a holiday retreat, Mainao has grown to a hotel with ten rooms three single, three double/matrimonial, two triples, one quadruple and a suite with an ocean view. A continental breakfast is served every morning using organic products from local farms. Originally, the hostel was a house for the owners 2 daughters, Maile and Naori, There were 6 rooms and the idea was to have a place to share holiday times with them. As time passed by, they became more independent and the house grew quiet and empty. This led to the idea of a place to accommodate the Santa Cruz growing tourist population. Making the most of its strategic location, the Mainao offers a comfortable stay, away from the downtown hustle and bustle. Throughout experience as tour guides, have come to understand the tourists expectations in terms of service and infrastructure, and have applied these to the hotel. Little by little, it has grown to 19 rooms. The hotel boosts Arabic-Moroccan construction, with peaceful gardens and patios, making ...

The Big Amazonas River [02:02]
The Amazon River in South America is the second longest in the world and by far the largest by waterflow with an average discharge greater than the next seven largest rivers combined (not including Madeira and Rio Negro, which are tributaries of the Amazon). The Amazon, which has the largest drainage basin in the world, about 7050000 square kilometres (2720000 sq mi), accounts for approximately one-fifth of the world's total river flow. In its upper stretches, above the confluence of the Negro River, the Amazon is called Solimões in Brazil; however, in Peru, Colombia and Ecuador, as well as the rest of the Spanish-speaking world, the river is generally called the Amazon downstream from the confluence of the Marañón and Ucayali rivers in Peru. The Ucayali-Apurímac river system is considered the main source of the Amazon. The width of the Amazon varies between 1.6 and 10 kilometres (1.0 and 6.2 mi) at low stage, but expands during the wet season to 48 kilometres (30 mi) or more. The river enters the Atlantic Ocean in a broad estuary about 240 kilometres (150 mi) wide. The mouth of the main stem is 80 kilometres (50 mi).[5] Because of its vast dimensions, it is sometimes called The River Sea. The first bridge in the Amazon river system (over the Rio Negro) opened on October 10, 2010. It is just outside Manaus. In this video you see the amazong flooding station in Leticia - Amazonas 2012.

Working On Environmental Conservation Projects Abroad updated [14:17]
Victoria Rouse from GreenFORCE speaking at Year Out Expo 2012. Victoria Rouse talks about Working On Environmental Conservation Projects Abroad. The principles of GreenFORCE came from the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. The first global recognition of the urgent need to preserve the diversity of life on earth. 168 countries undertook to implement biodiversity surveys of their "at risk" regions. Section 3c states that "if the host country does not have the resource to undertake this work then an international aid organization would be invited in by the host country". GreenFORCE is one of those organisations. GreenFORCE are a member of the IUCN - World Conservation Union. An NGO in our host countries. Multiple award winner, both in country and internationally, GreenFORCE only works at the invitation of the host country, in partnership with the local people to create a sustainable and bio-diverse future. This presentation was filmed by 247 Media at Year Out Expo - the London Gap Year & Career Break Show on Saturday 14th January 2012.
