Mainao Hotel, Santa Cruz Island, Ecuador (EC) [00:45]
goo.gl for reviews, prices and info. Mainao Hotel, Santa Cruz Island, Ecuador (EC) Mainao Hotel is a pleasant and clean hotel with a friendly, experienced staff. Located near the main street of Puerto Ayora, it is conveniently accessible while being set apart from the busy activity of the town. Mainao has lovely outdoor open areas within the hotel to wander in and relax. A former tour guide, the owner has utilized his knowledge of tourists needs to thoroughly equip his hotel. From a holiday retreat, Mainao has grown to a hotel with ten rooms three single, three double/matrimonial, two triples, one quadruple and a suite with an ocean view. A continental breakfast is served every morning using organic products from local farms. Originally, the hostel was a house for the owners 2 daughters, Maile and Naori, There were 6 rooms and the idea was to have a place to share holiday times with them. As time passed by, they became more independent and the house grew quiet and empty. This led to the idea of a place to accommodate the Santa Cruz growing tourist population. Making the most of its strategic location, the Mainao offers a comfortable stay, away from the downtown hustle and bustle. Throughout experience as tour guides, have come to understand the tourists expectations in terms of service and infrastructure, and have applied these to the hotel. Little by little, it has grown to 19 rooms. The hotel boosts Arabic-Moroccan construction, with peaceful gardens and patios, making ...

Pyramids Ecuador - Cochasquí / unedited [00:28]
Pyramids in Ecuador - open to public. The entire compound was - until recently - owned by a single family. It is currently under the care of the government of Ecuador and open to the public. The "main" or "most central" structure was dug up (in a most unprofessional way / utterly destroyed) before the family gave the property over to the government of Ecuador. When asked if they found anything the family member in question became nervous and skirted the question. Laughing we can openly discuss the gold they must have unearthed. Officially no gold was found. Nonetheless artifacts did/do? abound in and around this site. On a personal note, highly relevant archaeological sites abound everywhere we have dug in Ecuador. "Grave?" sites along the coast near Bahia have been approximately 30 meters deep. Other pyramids look like those featured in these videos - earthen mounts or hills, covered in vegetation.

Bitter, Bitter, Ayambi: a magical song against anger.mov [01:46]
Bitter Ayambi (recorded and translated from Kichwa by Tod Swanson) is a magical song meant to protect the singer from the anger of her relatives. The song works by linking the identity of the singer to that a large iguanaesque lizard called an ayambi. The ayambi works as a poignant image for an elderly lady because it has loose rolls of scaly skin that jiggle when it walks and it is almost always seen alone. Because of the magical song, when those who are angry see an ayambi their anger will be changed to compassion for the elderly singer.

Lima Peru 2012 Ciudad de los Reyes (City of Kings) Part 3 [05:48]
Lima is the capital and the largest city of Peru. It is located in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, in the central part of the country, on a desert coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Together with the seaport of Callao, it forms a contiguous urban area known as the Lima Metropolitan Area. With a population approaching 9 million, Lima is the fourth largest city in South America. Lima was founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro on January 18, 1535, as la Ciudad de los Reyes, or "the City of Kings". It became the capital and most important city in the Spanish Viceroyalty of Peru. Following the Peruvian War of Independence, it became the capital of the Republic of Peru. Today, around one-third of the Peruvian population lives in the metropolitan area. Lima is home to one of the oldest higher learning institutions in the New World. The National University of San Marcos, founded on May 12, 1551 during Spanish colonial regime, is the oldest continuously functioning university in the Americas. Lima's architecture is characterized by a mix of styles. Examples of early colonial architecture include the Monastery of San Francisco, the Cathedral of Lima and the Torre Tagle Palace. These constructions are generally influenced by the Spanish baroque, Spanish Neoclassicism, and Spanish Colonial styles. After independence, a gradual shift towards the neoclassical and Art Nouveau styles took place. Many of these constructions were greatly influenced by ...
