Cloud Forest Fable [00:25]
Read first, then watch: In the Andes mountains of Ecuador lived two friends, the Cloud and the Forest. They would play with each other, not for hours or days but for weeks that turned into months. One day they had a difference of opinion, which turned into a heated argument that soon became an ego issue. The Clouds decided to move on and Forest decided to focus on growing into newer territories. But the animals and birds of the forest very unhappy about this sudden turn of events for their lives depended on the two being together. They thought of a plan to get the two friends back together. The great condor wrote a beautiful apology letter and flew to the Clouds with it saying it was from the Forest. Meanwhile, the anaconda presented a copy of the same letter to the Forest, but signed it in the Cloud's name. But both the Cloud and the Forest caught on to their trick and scolded them severely. Seeing their plan fail, the dejected animals and birds prepared to leave the forest and look for another home. That night the forest was very silent. But the next morning everyone was surprised to see the Cloud and Forest back together. Surprised, the Condor, Anaconda and others went and asked the two friends for the reason behind their change of heart. With a smile, the friends explained - your letters made us realize how well we know each other and also what our friendship means not just to us but also to others around us. As much as I love living at the beach in Salinas, every now and then I am ready for a change of scenary. One of my favorite weekend trips is to Cuenca. We leave Salinas in the morning and arrive in Cuenca in time for lunch. Here is a video from our most recent visit. Make sure to back long sleeves and a jacket, as it can get pretty cold.

A day in Girón (Cuenca, Ecuador) New Video! [03:21]
•ENGLISH Hello folks, Girón is a town located to the southeast of Cuenca City. You get there by traveling about 2 hours by car. In this video, you'll hear a traditional song played by a local band commonly known as "Banda de Pueblo". If you ever visit Ecuador, you'll find these types of bands mostly in the Andean part of my country. Also, in this video, you will see a well-known tourist attraction of Girón which is a small waterfall called "El Chorro". The afternoons in this site are little cold, and for that reason I would suggest you to take a cup of coffe and relax yourself while you start hearing some nocturnal insects. 7-28-11 Oyacachi Hot Springs [00:12]
A short pan of the Oyacachi hot springs. Dipping into the cold river, then into the hot pools is amazing. The springs themselves smell a bit like eggs (they're quire sulfurous) but feel amazing. Also, the clouds do not stop UV radiation from the sun. I've learned this. Ow. Oyacachi is a small town in part of the Ecuadorian cloud forest. Many years ago, a USAid project was set up to build a hot springs there. The project failed after the springs were built, ending before the marketing phase began. So very few people know about the place. That said, the hot springs are operational and community run... and awesome.
