Manta Ecuador-New Years Eve 2012/13 012.MP4 [12:51]
Crazy New Year's celbrations in Manta Ecuador. As the video continues it gets harder to see the fireworks as the smoke is so dense. In person it's hard to see any sky not lit up. You'll also notice fires in all the street. They make paper mache images of people , super hero's & other & burn them in the streets. This truely is like a war zone but they having fun. Manta is a city of about 300,00 on the coast of Ecuador-South America.
New Year's Celebration in Salinas, Ecuador [03:01]
My first New Year celebration in Ecuador - and my first New Year celebration with my wife. I have to admit - getting 1000 people together to launch fireworks with no organization what-so-ever actually beats the hell out of a firework show by some random city in the USA.
Fireworks in Cuenca, Ecuador [02:50]
December 2, 2012 - Just when I thought this display was dying down it started getting out of hand. One of the aerial mortars landing in the square about ten feet from me and the air was full of shooting stars around me. And the band and the car alarms play on! Great fun!
Baños my first impressions [03:59]
And just a few information about Baños. This city is located 3 1/2 hours south of Quito (distances are here normally measured in driving hours by bus), it's on an altitude of 1.800 meters in a valley at the food of the volcano Tungurahua that erupted just some months ago. Baños is un place of pilgrimage and there are many processions in honor of the "Virgen de Agua Santa" and especially the month of October is all about the virgin and there are processions, fireworks and celebrations every day. The principal source of income is the tourism for both, travelers from Ecuador and all over the world and therefore the city is full of hostels, hotels and travel agencies. But during the week it's a quiet and relaxing place.
Fiesta de la Virgen de las Mercedes en Cuenca, Ecuador [02:52]
La Fiesta de la Virgen de las Mercedes (festival of the Virgin of Mercy or Our Lady of Mercy) is a religious festival held throughout South America. After a Mass at Iglesia de la Merced in Cuenca, worshipers carried a statue of the Virgin, complete with human hair and decorated with garlands, through the streets. People tossed rose petals at her and sang a religious song along with the town band. The procession was accompanied and followed by lots of fireworks (a few right behind me, in the case of the second clip).
