Lima is the capital and the largest city of Peru. It is located in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, in the central part of the country, on a desert coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Together with the seaport of Callao, it forms a contiguous urban area known as the Lima Metropolitan Area. With a population approaching 9 million, Lima is the fourth largest city in South America. Lima was founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro on January 18, 1535, as la Ciudad de los Reyes, or "the City of Kings". It became the capital and most important city in the Spanish Viceroyalty of Peru. Following the Peruvian War of Independence, it became the capital of the Republic of Peru. Today, around one-third of the Peruvian population lives in the metropolitan area. Lima is home to one of the oldest higher learning institutions in the New World. The National University of San Marcos, founded on May 12, 1551 during Spanish colonial regime, is the oldest continuously functioning university in the Americas. Lima's architecture is characterized by a mix of styles. Examples of early colonial architecture include the Monastery of San Francisco, the Cathedral of Lima and the Torre Tagle Palace. These constructions are generally influenced by the Spanish baroque, Spanish Neoclassicism, and Spanish Colonial styles. Elección de la Reina mundial de la Rosa en Pedro Moncayo [01:24]
Una capital que precie, en este caso la Capital Mundial de la Rosa, debe tener su reina; por ello el Municipio de Pedro Moncayo, la CFT y Expoflores convocaron al primer concurso "Reina Mundial de la Rosa", certamen en el que participaron jóvenes pertenecientes a algunas colonias residentes en Ecuador: • Fernanda Vasco, de Argentina • Juliana Juber, de Brasil • Vannessa Gutiérrez, de Colombia • Sulay Castillo, de Ecuador • Jaire Cagigal, de España • Alexandra Stoudennikova, de Rusia • Andrea Lara, de Venezuela • Johanna Portilla, Reina de Pedro Moncayo Las bellas jóvenes se prepararon por dos semanas y en un evento de mucho colorido y arte, glamour y elegancia, y luego de cuatro presentaciones y coreografías, y ante unas dos mil personas, el jurado eligió a Alexandra Stoudennikova, joven de 18 años, representante de Rusia, como la primera Reina Mundial de la Rosa; a Juliana Juber, representante de Brasil, como Virreina, ya Vanessa Gutiérrez, representante de Colombia, como Señorita Turismo. Las candidatas eligieron, entre ellas, a Alexandra Stoudennikova como Señorita Amistad. Para 2012, la segunda elección de Reina Mundial de la Rosa coincidirá con la feria FlorEcuador Agriflor y contará con la presencia de candidatas de otros países, para lo que Expoflores y la CFT avanzan en negociaciones con las embajadas para que sus delegadas vengan de fuera y posicionar a este torneo galante entre los más importantes del mundo, tal como sucede con nuestra flor.
