La mirada en los ojos de las personas que fotografié me acompañarán siempre. Espero que estas imágenes puedan conmoverles aunque sólo sea por un momento. Las imágenes están acompañadas por la maravillosa música de Gustavo Santaolalla "De Usuahia A La Quiaca", de la también impresionante película "Diarios de motocicleta" . Estuve en Ecuador para participar en un increíble proyecto de investigación organizado por el Instituto de Enfermedades Tropicales con sede en la Universidad de Ohio y en Quito, Ecuador. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a selection of pictures I took in remote communities of the province of Loja, Southern Ecuador. The look in the eyes of the people I photographed will stay with me forever. I hope they can touch you if only just for a while. The pictures are accompanied by the wonderfull music of Gustavo Santaolalla "De Usuahia A La Quiaca" from the equally amazing movie "Diarios de Motocicleta". I was in Ecuador to participate in an amazing research project organized by the Tropical Disease Institute based at Ohio University (Athens, Ohio, USA) and in Quito, Ecuador.

Fiestas Zamora - Chinchipe 2009.mp4 [09:43]
Appreciated friends: Greetings from Zamora Chinchipe, Lungs of the Mother Earth, Source of Water and Life for all our friends everywhere. We greet you with the music of our waterfalls and rivers, like the Nangaritza and the Bombuscaro. We greet you with the songs of our birds and our Amazonian forests, of our Lakes of the Compadres in the heights of Podocarpus National Park and from the Condor Biosphere Reserve. Our greeting is carried on the song of the wind and by the high paramo grassland headwaters of the Yacuambi River and its wetlands, its waterfalls and those of the Yacuchingari River. We extend an Intercultural and Plurinational greeting from the Mestizo people, the Puruhaes, the African-Ecuadorians, the Shuar and the Saraguros who live in this Amazonian province. Our greeting goes out in the name of the nine counties and 26 parishes of Zamora Chinchipe, but above all, it comes from the 100000 inhabitants who work here and share this beautiful and wonderful land, full of life, located in the southern Amazonia portion of Ecuador, in South America.

Apuela Chicken Farm [03:49]
This is a fully developed "chicken farm" on what could be a beautiful 2.5-acre riverfront setting near Apuela. There is a nice little house, a huge functional chickenhouse (which is also the major problem with the place), outbuildings, and dozens of coffee trees. The river frontage is nice, but they just widened the road that runs along it, so now there is a road between the house and river. Motorized canoe on the Cuyabeno river [01:01]
On the way to the Jamu lodge, in the Cuyabeno wildlife reserve in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The canoe ride to the lodge took a couple of hours, and was full of monkeys, birds, and other Amazonian wildlife.
