A trapped mother and baby whale die in fishermen nets in Ecuador [02:28]
This video shows a mother and a baby humpback whale trapped in fishermens nets in Puerto Lopez in Ecuador. You will notice a group of larger male humpback whales trying to break the mother and baby free. The video was filmed on a boat from the Machala National Parks for tourists that wanted to see the whales. The guides who work for the Ecuadorian National Parks and Ministry of Environment did not want to set the whales free because it would destroy the costly fishermens nets. The mother and baby whale died three days later.

Bienvenidos a Peru.wmv [00:46]
Anitclimax is what I found over the Zumba, Ecuador to San Ignacio, Peru border, anticlimax and a surly immigrations officer (here seen in the red shirt) waiting to give me a so-so first impression of his country. From there, things didn´t exactly improve; my driver charged me 50 soles for my ride to San Ignacio, a price I now know to be horribly gringo-inflated. To add insult to financial injury, he crammed in four other guys into the car, so not only was I ripped off, I was ripped off with sweaty elbows jamming into my ribs. But, it happens, and my journey to Iquitos had to start somewhere. I´ve chose to use a route that is not recommended in various tour guides, namely because it´s infrequently traveled and involves so many bus transfers and stops. Being off the beaten trail will be a new experience for me, at least on this trip; here´s hoping all goes well!

The community of Pijal Bajo has organized a community tourism centre called "Sumak Pacha" which offers its visitors a wide variety of activities including: Organic agricultural growing, music, dance, national foods, hiking trails, and rural lodging. Moreover, all the mentioned activities are guided by native guides in the area helping to support the local community.
