Leaving Colombia and arriving in Ecuador - Adventure motorcycling trip.mpeg [03:13]
Colombia has been relaxing, an adventure, we only probably road 10 days in the month we stayed there and we are now ready for the big ride down to Ushuaia in Tierra Del Fuego/ Argentina. We are currently in the Ecuadorian part of the Amazon jungle, having crossed the Equator. Leaving Bogota we headed south over a magnificent pass between Ibague and Armenia. Climbing to an altitude of 4000m through sweeping bends, lush mountains and small villages along the way. Then after this mountain crossing we straight-lined it south towards Popayan and then the border town of Ipiales where we crossed into Ecuador.

"Colonial Cuenca" Dawn_smedley's photos around Cuenca, Ecuador [00:52]
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Cuenca, Ecuador by TravelPod blogger Dawn_smedley titled "Colonial Cuenca!" Dawn_smedley's travel blog entry: "We arrived in Cuenca early evening and jumped into a taxi with a french guy which was great as I got to waffle away for abit!!! Nice break from trying to learn espagnol! We headed to a hostel called 'El Monasterio' which had amazing views over one of the squares especially at night when all it´s beautiful buildings are illuminated! Unfortunately the rooms had no soundproofing whatsoever but we decided to live with it so we could enjoy those stunning views!!!! The city's cobblestone streets, towering cathedrals, and marble and whitewashed buildings give it a colonial air like nowhere else we´d been to in Ecuador and we had a great day exploring with the most beautiful blue skies! It was great timing to be there that day again as there was a brass band in full regalia in the main square making for more great photos! The inside of the El Sagrario is stunning as well! We spent most of the day exploring the town, wandering down by the river and seeing our first inca ruins (not so impressive once you´ve been to Machu Picchu!) and then went on a quest to find the world´s tackiest birthday card for Dad! Think we found it!!! We also spent a fair while trying to find and English bookshop to get me a book but it had moved somewhere or was definitely hiding, made some nice friends on the way though! Watching sunset on the ...

"Quito and Otavola - Market day...here we come" Freyal's photos around Quito, Ecuador [02:35]
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Quito, Ecuador by TravelPod blogger Freyal titled "Quito and Otavola - Market day...here we come!!" Freyal's travel blog entry: "We arrived in Quito, Ecuador and caught a taxi straight to the Secret Garden Hostel in the old town!! We were buzzed into the entrance and heard a voice shouting from above asking us if we were checking in. We then hauled our backpacks up the many flights of stairs and blamed the puffing on the altitude!! Quito is situated high in the Andes at about 2850m above sea level and is surrounded in part by the walls of a volcano. The hostel is four levels with an awesome roof top balcony with a kitchen and terrace with tables and a few hammocks! It has amazing views and looks fantastic particularly at night! The rooms are $11 each and breakfast US$1.75, and dinner somewhere within the $3-4 range - Sooo cheap in this country!! It is very friendly and welcoming with great staff and is actually owned by an Australian guy and his Ecuadorian wife! Highly recommend to anyone who ever travels this way! Tomorrow we are off for some shopping at the markets. So we headed out to the markets with an earlier start at about 7am. As I was going with someone who's motto is shop like you mean it I suspected a few purchases were going to be made despite the fact the backpack really doesn't need anymore in it. The drive to Otovalo was beautiful through some very scenic mountainous areas. It was also nice to escape some ...
