Ecuador 2010 Part 1 [08:18]
This video is from a recent Naturetrek expedition to Amazonian Ecuador. The trip was based at two lodges; Sani Lodge and Shiripuno Lodge, both near the Napo River in the north east of Ecuador. The video is split into 5 parts, and part one starts with opening titles to the theme of Hawaii Five-0, inspired the boat travel. We begin in the town of Coca where we were picked up by Sani Lodge's big boat to take us 2.5 hours down the Napo River, where we switched to smaller boats capable of traversing the small channels to Sani Lodge itself. The first bird filmed is a Neotropical cormorant before the sun set. We awoke for an early breakfast and set off in the dark for the lodge's canopy tower. The only bird filmed en-route was a black-capped donacobius, before we mounted the long flight of stairs to the platform, some 40m up a tree. Birds filmed from here are mealy amazon, many-banded aracari, pied puffbird, gilded barbet, common piping-guan, white-lored euphonia, black-fronted nunbird and also a red howler monkey. Back on the boat we have some white-winged swallows and then violaceous jay back at the lodge, along with short-crested flycatcher. It rained for most of the afternoon, but there was just time to film capped heron before the camera had to be put away. Parts 2-5 follow on from this clip.
