Lonesome George...Trip to the Galapagos Islands, June 2010 [00:46]
I visited the Darwin Research station in as one of my itinerary in the trip to the Galapagos Islands in June 2010. I personally saw the remaining species of this tortoise called "Lonesome George." Lonesome George (Spanish: Solitario Jorge) is the last known individual of the Pinta Island tortoise (Chelonoidis nigra abingdoni), which is one of eight to fifteen extant subspecies of Galápagos tortoise, all of which are native to the Galápagos Islands. He has been labeled the rarest creature in the world, and he is a potent symbol for conservation efforts in the Galápagos and conservation efforts internationally. It is thought that he was named after a character played by American actor George Gobel. George was first seen on the island of Pinta on 1 December 1971 by Hungarian malacologist József Vágvölgyi. The island's vegetation had been devastated by introduced feral goats, and the indigenous G. n. abingdoni population had been reduced to a single individual. Relocated for his safety to the Charles Darwin Research Station, George was penned with two females of a different subspecies, but although eggs have been produced, none has hatched. George is estimated to be about 100 years of age, and he is in good health. A prolonged effort to exterminate goats introduced to Pinta is now complete, and the vegetation of the island is starting to return to its former state. The presence of mixed race Pinta ancestry tortoises around Wolf Volcano, on neighbouring Isabela ...

Drunk Indios Dancing in Cuicocha [03:51]
Free video about drunk Indios dancing traditional dance near the Cuicocha lake in the Otavalo region. The men and women stomp in circles until they change direction. The moderator in the yellow shirt decides when it is time to turn. Others follow and have fun, while drinking very irresponsibly. Free food and drinks is offered at the festival, becasue all of those people are farmers and traders who organize this celebration by themselves. It is a social event for celebrating many things, including the holly mountain peaks and the protected lake. This cool video was created by epSos.de in Cuicocha of Ecuador. The indigenous people of the Americas are the original inhabitants of North and South America. They are often also referred to as Native Americans, Indios or latinos. Hispanic and Latino Americans are Americans with origins in the Hispanic countries of Latin America or in Spain. Latino Americans are very racially diverse as a result form an ethnic category, rather than a race. They are composed of numerous, distinct tribes, states, and ethnic groups, many of which survive as intact political communities. Indigenous peoples in Ecuador are the groups of people who were present in what became the South American nation of Ecuador when Europeans arrived. Otavalo, capital of Otavalo Canton, is a largely indigenous town in the Imbabura Province of Ecuador. Otavalo was an area made up of farming communities due to the rich volcanic soils in this area, but with the growth of ...

Magnificent Frigatebirds on Isla De La Plata [00:41]
On our trip to Puerto Lopez, we visited Isla De La Plata, Ecuador. It's the home to an amazing number of bird species including the Magnificent Frigatebird. Watch as a colony of frigates fly and swoop. Notice how the males have a red pouch under their beaks that is inflated during the breeding season to attract a mate.
