Our group was able to take an Olmsted Trip to Ecuador in the Spring of 2010. We took a horse ride up the volcano plains of Ecuador, near the volcanoes of Cotopaxi and Rumiñahui on the Western Cordillera. We were told that we will run into bulls that are very territorial and if we were chased by them, take your horse uphill...bulls are slower than horses going uphill

It was the rainy season in Ecuador from what I was told...and it rained each of the 22 days I was there, some days just a bit, but some days it rained almost the entire day. Again, this is not an exciting video, but intended to convey what it was like one afternoon, on the porch, overlooking the valley, in a hammock, watching it rain.

Quito, Ecuador [02:36]
The capital of Ecuador is a great place to get a taste of the South American highlands. Quito is one of the highest placed cities in the world, and the view from there is fantastic. If you come there you can see the Virtue of Quito, climb on volcanoes or step on the Equator Line. You can do many cool things, and we have been there!

This is Puerto Lopez in Ecuador [04:11]
These are the hostals, shops and stands that align next to the beach of Puerto Lopez. The economy here thrives on tourism and fishing. Here are some things I have learned from visiting Puerto Lopez. Dogs out number cats like 20 to 1 here. The further inland you go away from the beach, the cheaper the food will be but the places will be more run down. The WI-FI internet here is super slow but treated like gold to those with laptops. When it rains, it happens during the mornings.
