Galapagos Islands ... a short stay! [04:46]
Another part of our South American adventure in October 2011 was a visit to the Galapagos Islands, nearly 700 miles off the coast of Ecuador. It really is the most wonderful part of the world, virtually unspoiled and a magical environment for seeing nature and wildlife in it's element. We stayed for 3 nights aboard the Santa Cruz and visited 6 of the main islands. Bartolome Island in the Galapagos [06:41]
A visit to Bartolome Island, one of several islands in the Galapagos Islands National Park, Ecuador, South America. Bartolome is a young island of volcanic origin with a very rocky surface and limited plant and animal life. This island was used for some of the scenes in the Russel Crowe movie "Master & Commander". We were told the main characters never visited the island and used Green Screen technology to make it appear as if they were on the island. The board walk from the landing to the top included about 356 steps with a bit of huffing and puffing to get a great view of the area. Blue-Footed Boobies, pelicans, and small penguins could be seen along with sea lions and red crabs.

The islands were completely uninhabited by man until 1535, for the wildlife living there man was just another species... The animals lack fear, I can easily walk or swim next to them!!! It's a paradise for snorkeling... wit rays, turtles, seals, sharks, penguins and more!!! Incredible animals, colorful reptiles and spectacular sceneries are waiting for me. It´sa special moment to celebrate the life... realize a dream!!! Galapagos is a unique life experience!!!
