Welcome back to life! [06:57]
Hello everybody The name of this post is program! After having had a hard time since the beginning of February I kind of decided that I need to get back to life and that was on Monday last week. Many of you know, that I had an accident on February 2nd in front of the house I'm staying at and was spending some days in the Hospital of Ambato and after that stayed in Baños resting and getting well again. The time spend in Hospital was quite an experience. I wrote a bit about the health system in Ecuador and that I decided to not make use of this in my last post. But as mentioned already several times, it always comes different. So I found myself in bed number 24 of a room with 25 beds and as so many times before also here being the only GRINGO! After one day I took the first look into a mirror and it was then that I understood why doctors, nurses and especially the other patients and visitors were looking pitiful at me! Everybody was so nice, helpful and caring that I never felt uncomfortable at any time. And up from day three there was even a 24 hour police attendance in my part of the room. After having a chat with the officer I found out, it was because of the new patient lying 3 beds next to me who was a prisoner and there was danger of flight. He wouldn't tell me though, what he's been charged for and sometimes it's better to not know all details. After four days I left the hospital and returned to Baños. Meanwhile I'm doing way better again and I started being a bit ...
Chimborazo Summit Climb - Ecuador 2011 - RE-UPLOAD [04:40]
I don't own the rights to the audio track to this video....but it so awesome, that I had to add it to my video...so please don't silence the track :) Believe me, my video will result in more sales for the Orginal Composer! Hundreds have emailed me, requesting an re upload :) The inactive stratovolcano Chimborazo is Ecuador's highest summit. Its summit is generally regarded as the spot on the surface farthest from the centre of the Earth, at a distance of 6384.4 kilometres (3967.1 mi). Until the beginning of the nineteenth century it was thought that Chimborazo was the highest mountain on Earth (measured from sea level), and such reputation led to many attempts on its summit during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In 1802 during his expedition to South America, Baron Alexander von Humboldt, accompanied by Aimé Bonpland and the Ecuadorian Carlos Montúfar attempted to reach the summit. From his description of the mountain it seems that before he and his companions had to return suffering from altitude sickness they reached a point at 5875 m, higher than previously attained by any European in recorded history.[note 5] In 1831 Jean Baptiste Boussingault and Colonel Hall reached a new "highest point", computed to be 6006 m.[13][14] In 1880 Chimborazo's summit was first climbed by Edward Whymper and the brothers Louis and Jean-Antoine Carrel. If the summit is measured from the center of the Earth its altitude is higher than Mount Everest. For this same reason, the ...
Peace Corps 30-Second Summary [00:37]
As I return from the Peace Corps, I am being asked the obvious but difficult question, "So, how was it?" After observing a few eyes-glazed-over expressions and a couple conspicuous glances down at a smartphone when I detail the improvements my community made to their queso fresco cheese, I decided to prepare this 30-second summary instead. Thanks to the US Peace Corps and to my friends in Ecuador for a very rewarding two years. Gracias a Cuerpo de Paz y mis amigos ecuatorianos por unos dos años muy gratificantes.
