Quito, Ecuador [02:36]
The capital of Ecuador is a great place to get a taste of the South American highlands. Quito is one of the highest placed cities in the world, and the view from there is fantastic. If you come there you can see the Virtue of Quito, climb on volcanoes or step on the Equator Line. You can do many cool things, and we have been there!

"Chile, Ecuador and The Andes" Barbarasyear's photos around Quito, Ecuador [02:27]
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Quito, Ecuador by TravelPod blogger Barbarasyear titled "Chile, Ecuador and The Andes" Barbarasyear's travel blog entry: "Left New Zealand on a high but have a good feeling about the last leg of my journey which I am about to share with you. Had a three day stop over in Chile which was all well and good - just did a bit of shopping and had a nice relaxing time in a posh hotel. On to Ecuador firstly for four weeks of Spanish School. What can I say it was straight in there and trying to remember the difference between a verb and an adverb. I can´t believe that it can be so difficult to construct a sentence in Spanish - they say everything **** about face! Oh well someone said to me that Spanish is one of the easiest languages to pick up - they lied!! Seriously I tried my best and although at the end of the four weeks I can understand a lot - Im still quite hesitant about speaking the language. Oh well not to worry. In between all the Spanish learning I have had quite a good few weekends travelling in and around Quito. Been to Baños, Otavalo, Mindo to the Old Town and up the Teleferico! Ill start with the Teleferico which is basically a cable car up the mountain. As cable cars go this one is pretty hectic. Its really steep and quite shaky but it is worth the journey as the view from the stop is a fantastic view of the City of Quito. Otavalo came next with a massive market on the Saturday and Sunday. Needless to say it was ...

"Quito and Otavola - Market day...here we come" Freyal's photos around Quito, Ecuador [02:35]
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Quito, Ecuador by TravelPod blogger Freyal titled "Quito and Otavola - Market day...here we come!!" Freyal's travel blog entry: "We arrived in Quito, Ecuador and caught a taxi straight to the Secret Garden Hostel in the old town!! We were buzzed into the entrance and heard a voice shouting from above asking us if we were checking in. We then hauled our backpacks up the many flights of stairs and blamed the puffing on the altitude!! Quito is situated high in the Andes at about 2850m above sea level and is surrounded in part by the walls of a volcano. The hostel is four levels with an awesome roof top balcony with a kitchen and terrace with tables and a few hammocks! It has amazing views and looks fantastic particularly at night! The rooms are $11 each and breakfast US$1.75, and dinner somewhere within the $3-4 range - Sooo cheap in this country!! It is very friendly and welcoming with great staff and is actually owned by an Australian guy and his Ecuadorian wife! Highly recommend to anyone who ever travels this way! Tomorrow we are off for some shopping at the markets. So we headed out to the markets with an earlier start at about 7am. As I was going with someone who's motto is shop like you mean it I suspected a few purchases were going to be made despite the fact the backpack really doesn't need anymore in it. The drive to Otovalo was beautiful through some very scenic mountainous areas. It was also nice to escape some ...
