Also bear in mind that it is very difficult to take pics of moving animals, we had about 100 tree photos which MAY have an animal in them! Day One After a nice dinner with our lovely Quito family, we caught the overnight bus from Quito to Lago Agrio. It was a pretty bumpy journey - at one point we woke up to find that we weren´t actually driving on a road, just a field of rubble. Arrived at Lago Agrio early and met our guide Jairo, who was an Ecuadorian version of Tarzan. It was just the two of us on a massive rickety bus which took us to El Puente in 3 hours where we had lunch before going into the Cuyabeno reserve. From there, a motorized canoe took us for 2 hours to Samona lodge. On the boat ride we saw lots of animals - lots of monkeys jumping through the trees which were often over our heads (see video), toucans, blue butterflies and pink river dolpins. The lodge was amazing - we stayed in wooden huts with palm tree roofs and everything was on stilts. There was only electricity in the kitchen so everything else was lit by candlelight at night (so ofcourse it was cold Amazon water showers for us!). Ecuador 2010 Part 3 [06:15]
Part 3 starts at dawn on the Napo River where we see a distant Amazonian umbrellabird followed by an even more distant oriole blackbird. This is the day we returned to Coca where we were to be picked up by a bus and driven a couple of hours to the Shiripuno River, then the 5 hour boat trip downriver to Shiripuno Lodge. There was time for a few beers in Coca where the bar had a tame white-throated toucan and some capuchins. While waiting for the boat we have a plumbeous kite flying overhead. Next morning we found a small snake on the path before coming across a singing musician wren, then the film shows a roosting rufous potoo, olive-backed foliage-gleaner, spotted puffbird, a brief spot-winged antbird, great-billed hermit, golden-green woodpecker and a brief scale-backed antbird. Then it's back to the lodge for lunch and the chance to film some butterflies, which take us to the end of the clip.
