Located in a valley and surrounded by the Andes Mountains and two dormant volcanos. Cotacachi is a city of approximately 10000 people consisting of Expats, Indigenous and Mestizos. The elevation is approximately 8000 feet above sea level. Cotacachi is known as the leather village of Ecuador. Along our main street you will find many leather shops, banks, restaurants. Just off the main street is San Francisco Park with many outdoor vendors. Our largest park hosts a beautiful cathedral. Cotacachi is a progressive city. Many of the older buildings are being remodeled. New construction is limited to insure adequate water, sewer and electric. Maintaining the ecology is high on the list. Our new International Airport opened on February 20th. Location will eliminate going through Quito our Capitol to reach Cotacachi and our neighboring cities. Travel will be much easier to the Northern part of Ecuador for residents and visitors alike. Ecuador has been named once again as the Number 1 city for retirement by International Living. A recent conference in Quito had a participation of over 450 people. Here is a little bike ride we did into the town of Banos Ecuador. We were on a BikeHike adventure called Andes to the Amazon. As you can see, the Volcano Tungurahua was erupting just a couple km's away as we enjoyed the amazing countryside!

Cuenca, Ecuador is a really nice town to unwind and kick back in. Cuenca is Ecuador's third largest city, but does not feel overwhelmingly large. You can find some good places to eat and plenty of sightseeing places to keep you busy.
