"Horse-trekking in the Andes" Markandluke's photos around Vilcambamba, Ecuador [01:10]
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Vilcambamba, Ecuador by TravelPod blogger Markandluke titled "Horse-trekking in the Andes" Markandluke's travel blog entry: "After flying down from Quito in order to excape the road-blocks, we continued travelling for 2 hours to a small village called Vilcambamba, and then down a dirt track to some cabañas (bungalows) on a river, surrounded by huge mountains and valleys. The day trek to get to the refuge (where we would spend the night) was pretty scary in places, as the rain had made the paths into quagmires, and at points there were drops that must have been 200m on both sides. When the horses started to slip and drop to their knees, that was when the heart skipped a few beats! We made it safely up though, and had spectacular views from the refuge - in the middle of nowhere, just us two and the guide surrounded by forest and mountains ...
