The Amazon River in South America is the second longest in the world and by far the largest by waterflow with an average discharge greater than the next seven largest rivers combined (not including Madeira and Rio Negro, which are tributaries of the Amazon). The Amazon, which has the largest drainage basin in the world, about 7050000 square kilometres (2720000 sq mi), accounts for approximately one-fifth of the world's total river flow. In its upper stretches, above the confluence of the Negro River, the Amazon is called Solimões in Brazil; however, in Peru, Colombia and Ecuador, as well as the rest of the Spanish-speaking world, the river is generally called the Amazon downstream from the confluence of the Marañón and Ucayali rivers in Peru. The Ucayali-Apurímac river system is considered the main source of the Amazon. The width of the Amazon varies between 1.6 and 10 kilometres (1.0 and 6.2 mi) at low stage, but expands during the wet season to 48 kilometres (30 mi) or more. The river enters the Atlantic Ocean in a broad estuary about 240 kilometres (150 mi) wide. The mouth of the main stem is 80 kilometres (50 mi).[5] Because of its vast dimensions, it is sometimes called The River Sea. Hier moest ik op de rest van de groep wachten die me in de boot zou vergezellen naar Isla de la Plata. Zij hoopten walvissen tegen te komen onderweg, maar ik wilde gewoon naar het eiland om te gaan duiken! Zo snel mogelijk het water in, get it over with, die drempel weer over! We zijn geen walvissen tegengekomen, dus waren we al rond 11u30 aan het eiland. Mooi zo. We hebben de 9 anderen gedropt op het eiland en ik ben met mijn duikinstructor/kapitein/buddy (Luis) en de bootsman (José) ietsje verder gevaren naar een plek waar ze vandaag al roggen van 4m hadden gezien. Luis, mijn duikbuddy voor vandaag, heeft alles eerst goed overlopen in de boot, want ik had hem gezegd dat het een jaar geleden was dat ik nog gedoken had. Hij wilde vóór we helemaal naar beneden gingen het legen van de duikbril oefenen en het beademingstoestel onder water uit de mond halen. Prima, zolang ik het maar op voorhand weet! Door zijn uitleg was ik al wat kalmer en wilde ik er aan beginnen. Eerst moest ik me in het volledige wetsuit wringen. Daarbovenop nog eens een halve wetsuit, schoentjes en hoofdkap. Ik was helemaal ingepakt, klaar om de koude in te duiken. De 2 mannen aan boord hebben me zo goed geholpen, ze waren echte schatjes. De eerste duik zakten we ...

Los humedales de la Segua son parte de la cuenca baja del Río Chone el cual siempre a funcionado como un estabilizadornatural para prevenir inundaciones invernales en el área de Chone. En las épocas de lluvias el humedal cubre un área de1742 hectáreas de áreas inundadas. Existen 164 especies de aves distribuidas en 44 familias conocidas en estos humedales. Existen al menos 63 especies de aves acuáticas, las demás son aves no acuáticas asociadas a los humedales.
