A Luxurious Stay at Hacienda Pinsaqui

The Hacienda Pinsaqui is a hotel that conjures up visions of wealth, romance and elegance. It is a hotel that has been a part of Ecuadorian history for centuries and is still marveled at with awe and appreciation. Magnificent buildings, magical surroundings and luxury rooms await hotel guests and, it is place where legends live, celebrities were welcomed and visitors are transported back to the eighteenth century. It is the historical significance and beauty of the estate that earns it a top spot amongst the hotels in Ecuador.

Quito is approximately a ninety-minute drive from Hacienda Pinsaqui. The hotel is nestled between a breathtaking estate of rolling hills, tall trees and green, manicured lawns and the foot of the Imbabura Volcano. It is known that the hotel was already in existence from 1790, as it was documented that when the 1867 earthquake struck Ecuador, the building was restored back to its original splendor, with much care and attention to detail. Originally the estate was used as a textile workshop. Spinners and weavers created the most extraordinary fabrics, which became extremely popular in the late 1800s when some of theses fabrics found their way to the Chicago World Fair. Hacienda Pinsaqui is also very proud to have had the honor of taking care of Simon Bolivar (known as El Liberator) during his stay and guests can also reside in his room. The hotel also found itself in the middle of a rather embarrassing part of Ecuadorian history, with the signing of the Treaty of Pinsaqui at the hotel on 30 December 1863.

Since that time, the hotel has been passed down through the generations of the Freile-Larrea family. Visitors may have a truly wonderful surprise when the owner enters the bar area on his magnificent stallion! The hotel is filled with original furniture and décor and the newspaper clippings that decorate the walls tell some of the stories that have occurred here. There are twenty beautiful rooms available at the hotel, some rooms featuring their own Jacuzzi, and a restaurant, terrace, bar and chapel. The gardens surrounding the hotel are littered with ponds, palms and friendly llamas, with the landscapes outside the estate providing the perfect trails for horse riding, hiking and mountain biking. If hiking or taking to the saddle does not interest guests, the nearby Otavalo has a magnificent market that sells woven items and handmade crafts. Cotacachi is known for its leather goods and San Antonia will dazzle visitors with its stone sculptures. The lakes of Monajanda, the Cascade de Peguche and the San Pablo Lake are well-known tourist attractions in this area.

Hacienda Pinsaqui definitely lives up to being one of the most spectacular hotels in Ecuador; with history, tradition, myth and legends oozing from every pore. The grounds are stunning and the staff members are friendly and extremely helpful. Good food, good service and a dreamlike destination, with tourist attractions and activities, Hacienda Pinsaqui has everything a visitor could wish for, and more, while exploring Ecuador.
