Amazonian Region

Amazon Basin forms the eastern part of Ecuador and it is the major region of it, covers approximately 12.000.000 hectares. Always green, supports exuberant vegetation that is typical of tropical rainforest, despite frantic deforestation. A major tributary of the Amazon River is the Napo River, which is a reason of visits of thousands of tourists every year. Its basin is 1400 km long and 1 to 3 miles wide. Provinces: Sucumbios, Napo, Orellana, Pastaza, Morona Santiago and Zamora Chinchipe with 4.8% of the population form, from north to south, El Oriente.
