El Pahuma Orchid Reserve
Ecuador is a country filled with fascinating historical wonders and natural beauty that attracts visitors to the country each year. One of these wonderful sights is located just outside the city of Quito, and not only offers great outdoor attractions for visitors to enjoy but has extraordinary facilities as well. El Pahuma Orchid Reserve is a tranquil site that is run by dedicated staff who have a passion for conservation and enthusiastically share their knowledge of the reserve with visitors. When visiting in Quito, the El Pahuma Orchid Reserve is a recommended natural attraction for tourists to explore.
Situated on approximately 1 500 acres of land, the El Pahuma Orchid Reserve consists of magnificent cloud forests that are blanketed in spectacular flower and plant life, such as various species of orchids. Orchids are referred to as epiphytes or air plants, as are some of the other plant species in the reserve, including the mosses, bromeliads and ferns. Birds fill the forests with color and son. All this splendor is complimented by three calming waterfalls found within the El Pahuma Orchid Reserve.
The Nature Center is a facility that was added to the reserve in 2001, and was constructed from wood to remain in harmony with the forests and the wildlife. Seminars and conference facilities are available here, as well as forest displays and information on the fauna and flora of the reserve, which is popular amongst school groups. One acre of the El Pahuma Orchid Reserve has been set aside for the Botanical Garden. What makes the garden even more spectacular is the fact that no trees were cut down or damage done to this area to create the gardens. The only additions made to the gardens were the planting of ferns, orchids and other shrubs that enhance the flora of the reserve.
Visitors are also able to enjoy a variety of trails leading through the reserve, of which some differ in the length and difficulty. For those making use of the lodge accommodation, they will be able to embark on a new trail adventure every day. The onsite restaurant provides guests and day visitors with scrumptious dishes and refreshments while enjoying the magnificence of the El Pahuma Orchid Reserve.
